Someone is Stealing my Content

Hello my wonderful readers!

I wanted to reach out to you all and let you know about something that has been going on the past few months in my blogging life. Initially I wasn’t planning on blogging about it, but there has been so much anger revolving around this issue, that I just don’t know what else to do.

As I’m sure you read by the title, someone is stealing my content. I stumbled upon this when the owner of the site went ahead and requested to use one of my links. Suddenly I was taken to a website where every one of my blog posts were displayed. On someone else’s site. There was a wash of emotion that came over me. Anger, violation, intimidation, and a bit of fear.

My face, my words, my image, was somewhere else. And before anyone starts saying “yeah but that’s the internet, what do you expect?” know that it’s not okay to take other’s content. There is no way to protect your content 100%, but when someone steals your thoughts it feels similar to (how I would imagine the feeling of) someone breaking into your home and touching your belongings. Every time I hop on my blog, I know that this other site will go ahead and copy, word for word, my work.

I don’t want to go ahead and put down the website’s name, they don’t need any more traffic than they’re already getting. But, I did want to put this together to get the word out there that the internet, while a wonderful space, can have it’s downfalls. I wish I never saw the site and that I was in the “ignorance is bliss” stage still. It can be hard to find the right people to help and it can feel overwhelming.

I have gone back and forth on what to do when it comes to blogging. I hate the idea of having my pictures and words somewhere else. I go back and forth deciding that I don’t care and that I care very much. It has put into perspective how I want my future with Barrychic.blog to look.

I wanted to write this to warn others to always be on the lookout for content that is being stolen. Tell others if you see their work somewhere else. Be sure to put a clear copyright message on your work and on your site. And understand that it’s impossible to prevent people copying your blog content, but that doesn’t mean that you are powerless. You are the creator, you have these thoughts and ideas, and you are the soul and mind behind your site. No one can take that from you.

Summer is right around the corner, and for me that means going into “finals mode” except not cramming flashcards, but workouts. I recently have been loving my fitness journey. I’m not comfortable with showing any of my transformation photos on the internet, but I will say that I’ve gained six pounds (of muscle!) and it makes me happy to see the changes in my body rather than on the scale.

The past year I’ve been loving the Youtuber Sarah’s Day. She’s a health and fitness Youtuber who’s motto is “Listen to Your Body.” I always thought that to be a great motto, but I didn’t really live by it until recently. Here’s what I learned about why to need to listen to this motto.

It’s my birthday today!!!! I absolutely love this day because it’s dedicated to enjoying multiple free coffees and being surrounded by the ones I love! Thank you to everyone that has already made me feel so special!

My sweet friend Anne from Mindfulness in the Midwest recently had her birthday and wrote down some reflection questions that she asked herself. As you know, I’m very into self reflection at the moment and so what better way to acknowledge my birthday here on BarryChic.blog than to do a self reflection? Earlier this week I grabbed a cup of coffee and sat down to think about my wonderful life. It’s a long post so snuggle in, grab a drink and your cozy blanket, and enjoy!

The month is already almost over! I can’t believe that March has come and gone. Here are my goals that I wrote back at the beginning of the month and a summary of how I did. I also wrote down some April goals for myself.

My Self-Care Night Routine

Is it just me, or does everyone look forward to a quite Friday in so they can de-stress? Sometimes I’m so excited when there are no plans to go out that night because my favorite way to ring in the weekend is with a glass of wine and a bath! Hopefully I’m not all by myself because I wanted to share my favorite routine when it comes to celebrating the end of a long week or to mentally prepare for a new one.

Women’s rights are human rights and seeing as today is international woman’s day, I see no better day to celebrate that fact. Ladies, we have come so far in history but we still have mountains to move. Let us remember that we are not fighting each other or men, we are fighting for equality each and every day.

I Got a Tattoo… Again

Despite my parent’s strong recommendation against it, I once again found myself in a tattoo parlor with a needle to my skin. Back in June of 2017  I got my first tattoo. It’s a roman numeral 4 representing the four people in my family. I got another tattoo a couple weeks ago and I wanted to talk about what it means to me.

Disclaimer: tattoos are a representation of what is important to you. Or is it just a picture of something you like. They can mean something. They can mean purely nothing. They do not need validation from anyone except yourself. Nonetheless, here’s the story behind mine.

February Favorites

Books

Woman in the Window

Five/five stars

Any book that makes me sit on my bed after my commute and keep listening, is considered an addicting book in my mind. This book reminds me so much of Gone Girl due to the fact that there are so many twists. Even the last one hundred pages consisted of surprises so you’re not done when you think it’s all figured out! The story of an agoraphobic, the new neighbors, and a girls night in is sure to keep you turning the pages.
The Elite (#2 in the Selection series)

Three/five stars

I’m happy to get back into series because I don’t have to say goodbye to the characters just yet. This is the second book in a trilogy and I loved how light the book was. Easy read and wasn’t heavy like some of the books I’ve read. A perfect read on a beach or in a bath and for anyone who has ever dreamed of being a princess (soo all of us?)

Also, follow me on Goodreads to keep up with all my reading

Products

Epson salts

I absolutely love taking baths. I take them weekly and it’s my perfect way of destressing and my method of self-care. But sadly, I am a college student and I can’t afford bath bombs every week. To supplement, I have really loved pouring in Epson salts into my bath. It has some awesome perks like increasing magnesium levels and eliminating toxins. I like any of the Dr. Teal’s brands  that you can find at Target and Walgreens and the big bag offers many uses per bag.
Everything Pink

I went a little crazy with this color after so much of it was sprinkled across my Pinterest. I have been loving searching for blush pink items for my Pinterest mood board as well as doing little things like paint my nails a pretty light blush. Bring on the Rosé for the sake of the aesthetic!

Target Swim Suits

Spring break in Florida is in a couple weeks and that was the perfect excuse to get a new swimsuit. If you’re looking for one I highly recommend checking out Target’s selection. I got a beautifully classic black one and it was so nice to have so many options. I got to pick out the perfect style for me and I can’t wait to wear it on the beach!
Coffee of the Month: Vanilla Latte

It’s midterm season which means many days (and nights) spent at coffee shops to break up the hours in the library. I have been loving my order of a skinny vanilla latte (iced on the warmer days). Also protip that if you have a Starbucks gold card you get free refills on coffee!

Quote of the Week

In my planner, there’s a space to write “notes & thoughts.” I’ve been leaving it blank for months, but in February I have been putting a quote of the week. Each week brings on different challenges and so I loved being able to pick what quote I’ve been loving at the moment.

Favorite Quotes

In addition to my Pink Cloud Pinterest board, I’ve really been loving posting to my Quotes board. These are great to come back to when I’m in need of inspiration, motivation, or a new weekly quote. They’re all great reminders!

Let me know what you loved in February. Bring on the birthday month!

I think these posts may be some of my favorites to write. It’s a chance for me to take a break and really think about some self-reflection. Life can get so busy, and goals can easily be forgotten. I made a promise to myself in January to uphold as many resolutions as I could. An easy way for me to do that is to write down my monthly goals. Here’s how it went for this month!

February Goals

Read 30 minutes a day. So this started out well for the first week, but as my first wave of tests came, my free time was limited and I was just too tired to focus on a book. I’m a bit disappointed in myself on this one because 30 minutes isn’t that hard considering my commute to campus is a 15 minute bus ride.

Read four books this month. Books on Audible really helped out because I was able to finish two books just by listening to them instead of music. I think if I would have read for 30 minutes I could’ve reached this goal.

Stick to a budget. Everything was in budget except for shopping. Am I even surprised? Luckily I was only over by a few dollars so I consider this a success! I will definitely be incorporating this into next month.

Cross off two things off my senior bucket list. If you look on my bucket list from freshman year there are still a bunch of things I haven’t done that I’ve wanted to do since freshman year. In February, I was able to cross off:

  1. Attend an ISU vs. Kansas basketball game
  2. Steal a sign (it was a poster at a bar but it counts!)

Blog more than half the days of February. So the Winter 8×8 didn’t end as I planned, but I decided that being true to myself is better than reaching a blog post goal. I didn’t get to blog more than 14 days but I guess I should have accounted for all the exams and projects that would have taken precedent. Through this goal I learned quality over quantity.

Only use my bed for sleeping. I wouldn’t say this was a success, but it was definitely an improvement from last month. There were more Sunday morning coffees spent on the couch rather than in bed. I felt that I was able to get my day started faster when this happened as well. Another win; there were no snacks that made its way to bed this month!

Looking at this it really doesn’t look like I accomplished much! Maybe a combination of being overambitious and only having 28 days in the month made for some uncompleted goals. But despite this, I’m not discouraged nor do I feel sad about the month. It was a full month full of new trials and busy weeks.

March Goals

Get back into journaling and self-reflection. I felt like I was at my calmest when I was constantly evaluating my life and reflecting on my actions. Daily journaling is something that fell off my radar and morning routines. Since I’m at work or class at 8:00 AM I don’t have time to make coffee let alone sit on the couch and journal. So I want to make it a focus to either wake up early to get some “me time” in, or prioritize my evenings so that this becomes habit.

Read four books. Okay reading, let’s try this again. I have a 21 hour car ride to Florida and then spring break on the beach so bring on the reading! I’m excited to make this a priority

Try two new things. Towards the end of February I went skiing for the first time. Before we left to go I really didn’t want to do it. I was to the point of sulking. I had a great time and every time something wonderful happened I kept thinking to myself, “I’m so glad I made myself come.” Why didn’t I want to go? I was scared of new things, change, failure. I want to make myself become aware of that dissonance feeling. Let it creep up again in new situations and push through. In March I want to try two new things. They could be as simple as being a vegetarian for a week, or doing a digital detox.

And that’s my rundown of February and my preparation for March! Let me know if you have any goals for one of my favorite months!
