Someone is Stealing my Content

Hello my wonderful readers!

I wanted to reach out to you all and let you know about something that has been going on the past few months in my blogging life. Initially I wasn’t planning on blogging about it, but there has been so much anger revolving around this issue, that I just don’t know what else to do.

As I’m sure you read by the title, someone is stealing my content. I stumbled upon this when the owner of the site went ahead and requested to use one of my links. Suddenly I was taken to a website where every one of my blog posts were displayed. On someone else’s site. There was a wash of emotion that came over me. Anger, violation, intimidation, and a bit of fear.

My face, my words, my image, was somewhere else. And before anyone starts saying “yeah but that’s the internet, what do you expect?” know that it’s not okay to take other’s content. There is no way to protect your content 100%, but when someone steals your thoughts it feels similar to (how I would imagine the feeling of) someone breaking into your home and touching your belongings. Every time I hop on my blog, I know that this other site will go ahead and copy, word for word, my work.

I don’t want to go ahead and put down the website’s name, they don’t need any more traffic than they’re already getting. But, I did want to put this together to get the word out there that the internet, while a wonderful space, can have it’s downfalls. I wish I never saw the site and that I was in the “ignorance is bliss” stage still. It can be hard to find the right people to help and it can feel overwhelming.

I have gone back and forth on what to do when it comes to blogging. I hate the idea of having my pictures and words somewhere else. I go back and forth deciding that I don’t care and that I care very much. It has put into perspective how I want my future with Barrychic.blog to look.

I wanted to write this to warn others to always be on the lookout for content that is being stolen. Tell others if you see their work somewhere else. Be sure to put a clear copyright message on your work and on your site. And understand that it’s impossible to prevent people copying your blog content, but that doesn’t mean that you are powerless. You are the creator, you have these thoughts and ideas, and you are the soul and mind behind your site. No one can take that from you.

Why You Need to Listen to Your Body

Summer is right around the corner, and for me that means going into “finals mode” except not cramming flashcards, but workouts. I recently have been loving my fitness journey. I’m not comfortable with showing any of my transformation photos on the internet, but I will say that I’ve gained six pounds (of muscle!) and it makes me happy to see the changes in my body rather than on the scale.

The past year I’ve been loving the Youtuber Sarah’s Day. She’s a health and fitness Youtuber who’s motto is “Listen to Your Body.” I always thought that to be a great motto, but I didn’t really live by it until recently. Here’s what I learned about why to need to listen to this motto.

Now maybe it’s the snow that descended upon Iowa State on April 3rd or maybe it’s the promise of another Florida vacation on the horizon, but I am so excited for warm weather!

Today I wanted to share this dress that I’ve been wearing from spring until fall! It looks beachy and flowy all on its own, but pair with a fall shall or over-sized scarf and you have yourself an autumn dress.

The amazingly talented Hannah Fisher Photography has done it again people! She captured these stunning photos that I’ve been drooling over since I got them. Seriously check her out, she’s amazing!

Peep those goosebumps ha ha! I was freezing!

I wanted to share this look with you all now because it’s back in stock at lulus.com!  It’s a little over $50 and the dress is made out of a light material so there’s no chance of getting too hot! On the other side, I never found that my undergarments were showing through. The neckline is a bit low for my taste though, but a simple safety pin maneuvering did the trick (thanks Allie for those skills!).

I’m just so excited for warmer weather and I see this dress accompanying me on many summer adventures!

PS: How cute would this dress look in Italy! *Cries* Okay bye for real!

It’s my birthday today!!!! I absolutely love this day because it’s dedicated to enjoying multiple free coffees and being surrounded by the ones I love! Thank you to everyone that has already made me feel so special!

My sweet friend Anne from Mindfulness in the Midwest recently had her birthday and wrote down some reflection questions that she asked herself. As you know, I’m very into self reflection at the moment and so what better way to acknowledge my birthday here on BarryChic.blog than to do a self reflection? Earlier this week I grabbed a cup of coffee and sat down to think about my wonderful life. It’s a long post so snuggle in, grab a drink and your cozy blanket, and enjoy!

The month is already almost over! I can’t believe that March has come and gone. Here are my goals that I wrote back at the beginning of the month and a summary of how I did. I also wrote down some April goals for myself.

I’m not the best baker and I believe some of that has to do with my lack of patience and inability to look at details for a long time. I often end up messing up the measurements or I become disinterested in the entire process. But, I come to you with the ultimate banana chocolate chip recipe that I found on Pinterest although I adapted the recipe a bit. It can be made in 30 minutes start to finish which is perfect for those who are on the run or just don’t feel like spending all afternoon in the kitchen (and I feel you!).

My Self-Care Night Routine

Is it just me, or does everyone look forward to a quite Friday in so they can de-stress? Sometimes I’m so excited when there are no plans to go out that night because my favorite way to ring in the weekend is with a glass of wine and a bath! Hopefully I’m not all by myself because I wanted to share my favorite routine when it comes to celebrating the end of a long week or to mentally prepare for a new one.

Travel Diary: Florida

This homebody once again convinced herself to leave the Midwest for spring break! Last week thirteen of us piled into cars and drove the grueling twenty-one hours to the gulf coast of Florida.

It was my first real vacation that wasn’t with my family which made for lots of firsts (and fun!) After I did a travel diary for Dublin and Burlington, I found myself going back and rereading the post to reminisce.  I’m sharing with you some of the highlights on our trip along with some great memories that no doubt will last a lifetime. Women’s rights are human rights and seeing as today is international woman’s day, I see no better day to celebrate that fact. Ladies, we have come so far in history but we still have mountains to move. Let us remember that we are not fighting each other or men, we are fighting for equality each and every day.
