Women’s rights are human rights and seeing as today is international woman’s day, I see no better day to celebrate that fact. Ladies, we have come so far in history but we still have mountains to move. Let us remember that we are not fighting each other or men, we are fighting for equality each and every day.

I will never ever forget in first grade when we were making paper crowns and the boy next to me said “ha mines a king’s crown and yours is only a queens crown and kings are more powerful than queens.”

Ha. Oh dear. If only I could say to him what I know now. I will never forget that day, nor will I stop telling people about it. Because instead of being embarrassed that I was a girl, I should have know that I was just as good as “a king.” And that boy should have know that kings and queens have equal power. Always.

To all my women out there:

Teach your daughters that they are a force to be reckoned with.

Tell your roommates that they are empowering, that you have their back while they rise up.

Tell your girlfriend that she already has the power to change things and that she always had.

Tell your guy friend that the rise of women does not mean the fall of men.

Tell your haters that feminism is not a bad word. And is not a bra-burning, man-hating cult. A feminist is anyone who recognizes the equality and full humanity on the basis of the equality of both men and women.

Tell yourself to be proud, be oh so proud.

To all my fellow women, take a moment to soak in this day. There have been millions of women before you, fighting to get you where you are today. Thank them. Thank your support system of women, thank your haters. Thank the universe and thank yourself.

Happy International Women’s Day. I love you all.
