How is it that I feel like it’s only been a few days since a ran out of my last final? Just like that, today is June 1st, another milestone in this short summer break. I’m trying to take advantage of this summer by striving to make sure no day is wasted away due to my lack of enthusiasm or annoyance that there’s nothing to do in the suburbs. While that idea hasn’t been 100% successful, I have been working on using products or doing things that make me happy. Since the month is over, I thought I would round up all of my favorites for the month of May!
Homemade Basil Pizza: Early in the month I purchased a basil plant and I was so excited to make something that would require me to pluck the leaves and put them straight into my dish. I bought already made dough, marinara sauce, fresh tomatoes, and cheese. Although it was more work than a freezer pizza, I’m convinced it tasted twice as good.
Healthy Breakfast: I might be the odd one out when I say that I eat healthier at school than I do at home. It’s just that there are so many snacks in the house when I’m back home! To jump start my mornings I have been loving drinking hot lemon water and eating my homemade overnight oats.
Homemade Iced Coffee: Now I love Starbucks and Dunkin’ as much as the next girl but when I found out how many calories are in each drink (not to mention the constant cost) I looked into a better option. I fill up my glass with 10oz of coffee, about a half cup of vanilla almond milk, and enough vanilla creamer (fat free) to reach the desired color. I love this cheaper, healthier option!
L’oreal foundation: I’ve happily transitioned into the season of minimal makeup! But, for days when I’m feeling put together or I want to go the extra step I’ve been using this LOreal foundation. This high coverage, natural finish foundation give just enough coverage to hide any discoloration while still feeling light on my skin. And the fact that I can buy it at a drug store makes it even better!
Cucumber facial mist: Again, I’ve been trying to keep my face as clean as possible and something that came to my attention was how dehydrated my skin was. I’ve made it a point to drink enough water but what I also found helpful was this facial mist that I found at TJ Maxx. I spray it on my face before my moisturizer and also throughout my day even when I have makeup on. This was a perfect addition to my collection and I’m loving it!
Big Magic: This book is a must read for anyone in a creative field. Throughout this entire book I felt inspired, understood, and validated as Elizabeth Gilbert explains the magic behind creativity. I wanted to highlight every other sentence in this book! Here are just two of the numerous quotes I ended up highlighting: “You will never be able to create anything interesting out of your life if you don’t believe that you are entitled to at least try.” and “I want to live the most decorated temporary life I can. I don’t mean just physically. I mean emotionally, spiritually, intellectually…education isn’t over when they say it’s over. It’s over when you say it’s over.”
Quantico: Hand’s down to my roommate’s boyfriend for suggesting this awesome TV series. I’ve gone full binge-mode and watched the entire first season in under a week! If you like anything that ABC has put on, (Grey’s, Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder) then you’ll love this show.
To Kill a Mockingbird: I found this book when I was cleaning out my room after moving back for the summer. It was under my bed along with a handful of other books that I was required to read in school. To Kill a Mockingbird was required for eighth grade, and I can tell you right now I didn’t understand half of what Harper Lee was conveying. Rereading it as an adult has given me new light and understanding to this classic, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I read it in another ten years and gained even more meaning.
Be on the lookout for next month’s collection of favorites and let me know if you have anything you’ve discovered this month!
